Tekelec (Booth #5915) is promoting its TekCore Session Manager with SIP signaling router (SSR) capability at this year’s NXTcomm show. With TekCore’s SSR functionality, carriers can offer next-generation, multimedia services without the overhead of deploying a full-scale IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) network.
TekCore SSR provides centralized session routing for softswitches and enables core signaling capabilities. For example, the softswitch can route all calls to TekCore by default, where the TekCore SSR will make Layer 5 SIP routing decisions using more advanced routing algorithms, to forward the SIP request more efficiently to the appropriate destination.
The TekCore SSR allows subscribers to access legacy, next-generation and also future, IMS-based services. The Session Manager can support signaling and session control in both the NGN and IMS domains while providing a linkage to SS7 signaling in the PSTN. This capability allows an operator to support a hybrid network architecture--supporting services across all three domains--and facilitating the gradual migration from PSTN to NGN and, eventually, IMS.
