NEC previews NXTcomm offerings
Jun 6, 2007 11:22 AM

NEC Corporation of America said today that it will showcase its new Next Generation Network offerings for carriers at NXTcomm June 18-20 in Chicago.

That will include NEC’s optical infrastructure, digital microwave radio, grid-based storage and thin client offerings.

“By building on our legacy of international market leadership, expertise and resources, NEC is in the position to collaborate across our core competencies in IT and communications technology to drive a new revolution in network technology, known as Next Generation Network,” said Mr. Makoto Imai, president and CEO, NEC Corporation of America, in the announcement. “This integration of computing and communications enables us to rapidly provide the next evolution in technology platforms. Solutions with improved speed and performance that are able to support the building and deployment of innovative business and consumer applications.”

Among the solutions NEC will be displaying are Mobile Backhaul, featuring its recently launched 5000 series of SONET/SDH microwave radios and the Nlite E point-to-point microwave radio, which incorporates a Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) interface to allow the flexible adaptation to an all-IP network. In addition, NEC will introduce a new switching solution at NXTcomm that will incorporate TDM/ATM interfaces, and highly reliable maintenance operation functionality, making it ideal for NGN construction. The new technology will enable carriers worldwide to carry out smooth mobile backhaul migration, for both optical and wireless infrastructure, as they change over to an all IP-environment

Finally, NEC will feature an NGN environment using its thin client system - the Virtual PC Center – and its NEC’s HYDRAstor next-generation grid storage architecture. The Virtual PC Center can run PC operating systems and application software on servers in the data center, offering fast image processing and efficient multimedia performance to enable appropriate allocation of server resources for reliability and PC data security.

The HYDRAstor next-generation grid storage architecture also provides carriers near limitless scale-out capabilities, enhanced resiliency and continuous availability with policy-driven, integrated data management services. It enables strict Service Level Agreement and business policy management on information storage, protection and control, which is critical as applications built on the NGN face increased storage complexities.
