Commercial Service aids those going global

Ninety-five percent of the world’s consumers live outside of the U.S. and, as a result, more and more U.S. companies are looking to increase their international sales with help from the Commerce Department’s U.S. Commercial Service and other federal agencies. At NXTcomm 2007, which is sponsored by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and the United States Telecom Association (USTelecom), we’re literally in the same room with you, offering outstanding export programs to assist you in your export and partnering efforts. NXTcomm is the single new industry venue bringing together leading telecommunication companies and significant players in the entertainment world. It’s pushing the boundaries of broadband innovation, so it’s your perfect opportunity to pursue export markets. NXTcomm has been selected by the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) to participate in the International Buyer Program (IBP), a service that significantly enhances our ability to make the show a truly global marketplace. Through this program, we offer a number of services to help international attendees make the most of their experience at the show.

Through the IBP and its globally integrated network, the U.S. Commercial Service provides a three-pronged approach that assists small and medium-sized U.S. businesses export their products and services.

First, Commercial Service overseas staffs, which are stationed at the many U.S. embassies and consulates located throughout the world, are working to recruit and bring to the show foreign buyer delegations and are helping organize their plans for doing business at the show. Even if a delegation cannot be formed in a country, Commercial Service specialists advertise NXTcomm through various media outlets and encourage buyers to register and come on their own. More than 14 DOC posts worldwide are actively recruiting official delegations, including Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Chile, Ecuador, Ghana, Italy, Jordan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Portugal and Venezuela.

Second, during the show, trade specialists from the Commercial Service will be managing the International Center located just near the international registration area at
McCormick Place, where buyers may negotiate with sellers, use the meeting rooms provided free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis and take advantage of the facility to plan their visits to the exhibit floor. We also encourage exhibitors to the visit the International Business Center for our interpreter services and export counseling from the Commercial Service.

Third, with its network of offices across the U.S. and in more than 80 countries, the Commercial Service of the U.S. DOC can leverage its global presence and international marketing expertise to help U.S. companies market all of their products and services worldwide. This assistance includes export counseling, market research, matchmaking, pre-arranged business appointments abroad through its Gold Key Service, advocacy, videoconferencing, international partner searches, trade events and more. In addition, NXTcomm exhibitors may participate in special one-on-one, pre-arranged appointments by signing up to meet with the international network of commercial specialists from our embassies and consulates. Together, they will explore export opportunities and discuss the latest market information on their respective countries. At past shows, these efforts have led to numerous export successes and tens of thousands of dollars in U.S. export sales.
