Field-installable FTTx connector
Jun 19, 2007 12:00 AM

Corning Cable Systems (Booth 4440) introduces the OptiSnap Connector, a field-installable connector that enables the installation of FTTx and other fiber optic networks. The no-epoxy, no-polish connector was designed with Corning Cable Systemsí patented, high-precision mechanical splice technology and can be installed in less than one minute per connector. This proven technology has been utilized in more than 44 million connectors deployed in the last 15 years. Installation is as simple as strip, clean, cleave, cam and crimp. The OptiSnap Connector features the patented Corning Cable Systems continuity test technology, which allows the installer to verify the installation is performed correctly. When the fiber is inserted in the handheld installation tool and the cam is activated, pass/fail lights notify the installer that every connector is installed. The factory-polished ceramic ferrule provides superior specifications for end-face geometry. The OptiSnap toolkit also includes a high precision handheld cleaver that enables easy splices for lower losses. The single-mode OptiSnap Connector is available in both ultra physical contact (UPC) polish and angled physical contact (APC) polish (SC and LC). With an average insertion loss of 0.2 dB for UPC and 0.4 dB for APC connectors, the OptiSnap Connector offers a higher grade of performance for field terminations.
